Tsai Hsing School is an esteemed institution with a rich history in Taipei and a new kindergarten branch in Kunshan, China. Banyan Global Learning recruits and supports teachers in both Taiwan and China and offers distance learning to the elementary and junior high school in Taipei. Our English program combines content-based instruction, student-centered activities and traditional methods to promote academic and real-world usage of the English language.

We are hiring for 4 types of positions:

1. IMMEDIATE OPENINGS! Kindergarten Teachers in Kunshan, China. English teachers are required to have A) TEFL OR TESOL AND 2 years of relevant teaching experience OR B) State Teaching Credential. 

2. AUGUST 2018 - Kindergarten Teachers in Taipei, Taiwan. English teachers are required to have a state teaching credential from USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand or Canadia (TEFL/TESOL is recommended but insufficient without a credential).

3. AUGUST 2018 - Elementary Teachers in Taipei, Taiwan. English teachers are required to have a state teaching credential from USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand or Canadia (TEFL/TESOL is recommended but insufficient without a credential).

4. IMMEDIATE OPENING! Distance Learning teachers in Los Angeles, CA. Teachers must be credentialed and available to teach from Downtown Los Angeles. Part-time positions only. 

#1 - KINDERGARTEN ENGLISH HOMEROOM TEACHER

Kunshan (Shanghai), China - 1-year contract

Compensation

  1. Monthly salary of 17,000 RMB. If a teacher stays for an optional second year, the monthly salary is 18,700 RMB. An additional 18,700 RMB bonus will be paid upon completion of a second-consecutive year. 
  2. School housing (a single apartment or room in a shared apartment) or 3300 RMB/month stipend is provided in the first year of service. Stipend is subject to local taxation.
  3. To offset the cost of transportation to Asia, 4500 RMB is provided as additional salary twice per year (once at the beginning of each semester) for a total of 9000 RMB travel stipend. Teacher does not need to provide any proof of travel. Stipend is subject to local taxation.

Duties

  1. Approximately 3 hours per day of direct instruction as lead-teacher of K1 (preschool), K2 (pre-K) and/or K3 (kindergarten) classes OR a floater position and small-group specialist supporting groups of students in other teachers' classes, subbing for other teachers and splitting their classes 50/50. 
  2. On campus daily for the entirety of school day (7:50am to 4:10pm). Time while on campus but not performing direct teaching should be spent in the classroom so as to be available for informal discussions with students. Teacher lunch and student nap time are exempt from this requirement.
  3. Submit lesson plans when requested.
  4. Attend all required meetings during school hours and weekend commitments such as teacher/parent meetings and other special events.  
  5. Correct all applicable student work in a timely manner, record oral readings for periodical exams.
  6. Assist in applicable English language events and competitions during the school day.
  7. Adhere to school-determined lesson pace of special content relevant to periodical exams.

Candidate Requirements:

  1. Must be able to provide access to a demo lesson in Shanghai, Taipei or Los Angeles or an electronic copy of a 15+ minute demo lesson video.
  2. Must be able to interview either over video teleconferencing or in Shanghai, Taipei or Los Angeles.
  3. Must be able to provide at least 3 professional references.
  4. No knowledge of Mandarin is necessary.

Miscellaneous

  1. National health insurance provided via the acquisition of work visa and residency permit.
  2. School will assist with visa/permit applications.

Calendar

  1. For IMMEDIATE OPENINGS starting during the 2017-2018 school year, there is a commitment to complete the school year ending June 30, 2018 AND serve the following 2018-2019 school year. Teachers starting in August 2018 commit to service until June 30, 2019. Teacher who completes two consecutive school years receives bonus.
  2. Approximately 3 weeks paid vacation (over Chinese New Year break)*.
  3. Paid time off for local holidays and days between semesters*.
  4. If Teacher signs on for an additional year of service, there is 6 weeks of unpaid leave over summer vacation (unless Teacher is invited to teach summer school). 

*Actual time off depends on Education Bureau calendar for that year.  For less than one week of Chinese New Year break, teachers will be required to be on campus in preparation for the new semester.

 

#2 - KINDERGARTEN English Homeroom Teacher

Taipei, Taiwan - 2-year contract

Compensation

  1. Monthly salary of 65,450 NTD in the first year and 79,050 NTD in the second year. A bonus of 267,750 NTD will be paid upon completion of the second consecutive year. 
  2. School housing (a single apartment or room in a shared apartment) or 15,000 NTD/month stipend is provided in the first year of service. In the second year of service, only the 15,000 NTD/month stipend is provided. Teachers who are married to non-teaching spouses will receive a 20,000 NTD/month stipend. A standard housing agreement that limits school liability must be signed by Teacher to obtain school housing. Stipend is subject to local taxation.
  3. To offset the cost of transportation to Asia, 22,500 NTD is provided as additional salary twice per year (once at the beginning of each semester) for a total travel stipend of 45,000 NTD. Teacher does not need to provide any proof of travel. Stipend is subject to local taxation.

#4 - DISTANCE LEARNING TEACHER

& Curriculum developer

Los Angeles, CA - part-time

 

Compensation

  1. $40/hr for teaching; $20/hr for planning

Duties

  1. Deliver content-based, student-centered English instruction to 5th to 8th-grade students in Taipei, Taiwan via video teleconferencing from our office in Downtown LA.
  2. Weekly lesson writing and/or administrative tasks (it's a small staff and a startup, so we have constantly evolving needs).  
  3. Attend required staff meetings.
  4. Correct all applicable student work in a timely manner.
  5. Occasional travel to Asia.

Candidate Requirements:

  1. Proof of US teaching credential (multi-subject or ESL elementary and/or junior high or high school humanities).
  2. Interest in educational technology and the prospect of working in an entrepreneurial, startup atmosphere.
  3. Strong writing skills for lesson planning.
  4. Avid user of technology in and out of the classroom.
  5. Solid classroom management skills and animated, engaging teaching style.
  6. Subscribe to the philosophy of progressive education while acknowledging the necessity of standardized student achievement.
  7. Availability for flexible working hours (4 nights per week and occasional weekends).
  8. Master's Degree and/or 3+ years experience and/or degree(s) from elite institutions preferred.

Calendar

  1. Classes take place Monday through Thursday evenings, 4pm to 9:15pm. 
  2. We operate mostly on the Taiwanese school calendar, so some US holidays (especially Mondays) are required workdays. 
  3. The Taiwanese calendar has a monthlong break for Chinese New Year and two months break over summer vacation.
