We provide content-based English instruction to whole-group K-12 classes via video teleconferencing and online learning management systems. Our distance learning model ensures that students learn from the very best teachers no matter where they are in the world. Our original curriculum enables students to develop their linguistic and comprehension skills, and improve their cultural awareness.

IDEEL teachers facilitate learning by motivating students through active participation in the classroom and challenging them to think for themselves. Our content-based approach supports contextualized learning as opposed to more “traditional” methods which emphasize repetition of isolated language fragments. Students learn by exploring engaging content and activities that help them make greater connections between the English language and their everyday lives. Our students not only perform well on standardized tests, but also learn how to use the English language in informal and academic settings through this uniquely immersive experience.


IDEEL’s dual-language program is designed so that students achieve academic proficiency in both English and Mandarin and become bilingual, bicultural and biliterate. In English, our curriculum inspires natural learning of the language by encouraging critical thinking, expression and creativity while ensuring sound foundational language skills such as phonics, fluency, and comprehension. Students leave our program able to comprehend and communicate relevant information in the English language in all academic subject areas. Why Content-Based Language Instruction?

A content-based approach to foreign language instruction ensures that students develop subject-area knowledge as well as language skills. In addition to enhancing their understanding of the world, subject-area knowledge is crucial to students’ ability to read unfamiliar texts. When students have sufficient subject-area knowledge, as well as knowledge of reading comprehension skills and strategies, they are able to apply that knowledge to comprehend new words, sentences, and passages. Our program teaches students how to transfer the subject-area knowledge and comprehension skills and strategies they have learned to new texts. This allows the students to read and comprehend novel texts, which in turn increases both their vocabulary and their subject-area knowledge.


  • Standardized test results - IDEEL students improved on reading and writing tasks on the local standardized test (in Taiwan, the General English Proficiency Test).
  • Internal assessments - Listening and speaking will soon be an important component of English exams throughout Asia (in Taiwan, listening components will be introduced in the next two years).
